The history of the Cartier brand began in 1847 when Louis-François Cartier took over the jewelry workshop of his master craftsman Adolphe Picard in Paris. The house quickly became recognized for its expertise with a first purchase by the nobility by Princess Mathilde in 1856 followed in 1859 by Empress Eugénie. Recognized as an exceptional jewelry house, the jewelry made by the Cartier workshops has been a great success since the 1900s.
